Week 5

Welcome to Week Five!

Annual TrendsAccording to the ACRL’s 2012 Top Ten Trends in Academic Libraries, “Convenience affects all aspects of information seeking–the selection, accessibility, and use of sources.” This week we’ll be exploring two top trends in academic libraries: eBooks and Online chat.

In the eBook Management section, we will be exploring Calibre, which is a useful tool that can help users make the most of their e-books and other forms of information. ALA has recently identified sustainability and portability between devices and platforms as a core principle for e-book collections. Calibre runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux platforms and supports a variety of formats.

In the Online Chat section, we will be exploring Mosio for Libraries and LibAnswers w/LibChat. Online chat service provides point of need help for students who are browsing the library website, working in a database, or exploring the catalog.
