Exploring Online Instruction: Guide on The Side

26 Mar
It’s Spring Break, but we’re continuing on and moving into this week’s module about Online Instruction! We’ll be discovering steps to avoid cognitive overload in online learning, and explore the open source software Guide on the Side, which can be used to create online, interactive tutorials. We’ll also be looking at how to embed multimedia into Blackboard. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this week’s module, and your experience with the program so far!

Unlocking the Power of Google Drive Tools

19 Mar

Hello everyone! We’ve enjoyed these first two weeks and getting to know you through your comments and blogs. If you’re looking through our modules and haven’t yet posted, please take a moment to comment on our pages or send an email, we’d like to be able to communicate and interact with all of our participants! Last week, we looked at some web marketing tools, and now in week 3 we’re ready to explore Data Gathering, using Google Form and Google Spreadsheet. These web-based applications offer innovative ways to receive feedback, and create, edit and share data with your users. Looking forward to reading your reflections on this week’s module and any other thoughts, helpful links or tools you may want to share with the community!

Welcome to Week 2

13 Mar

Welcome to week 2! Some of you may just be getting started, but don’t be stressed about getting caught up. There’s still plenty of time for you to look over the blogging module and submit your first blog. This week we’ll be looking at Web Marketing, using Pinterest and Flickr. Many libraries have found ways to use these popular tools to connect with patrons and provide information to a wider audience. Even if you are already familiar with Pinterest and Flickr, you may be able discover new ways to leverage these technologies in your library practice and personal life. So join us this week as we explore and reflect on these great web applications that will help you build your online community!

Welcome to Week 1!

6 Mar

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to read the “Welcome to Learning Hub 2.0” posting, which will help guide you through the different areas of our site. This week is all about Getting Started with our learning process by exploring blogs. You will be learning about what exactly a blog is, and see some great examples of how libraries and librarians are making use of this awesome technology. You’ll also be participating in a few fun activities using the WordPress blogging tool, such as creating your first blog entry. We’ll be using these blogs throughout the program to share reflections on the modules each week, and to communicate with questions and comments on individual blog postings.

If you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask! There is a comment box at the bottom of every module where you can comment or ask questions. For more general information, you can contact us at . We look forward to reading your blogs this week and getting to know you all!
